Kids Can Create Their Own World With New Poptropica Land

Members Helped Develop Prototype in First Poptropica Lab

BOSTON – Aug. 7, 2014 — Kids can create, destroy and rebuild at will whatever their imaginations can dream with Poptropica Land, launched today from Poptropica®, the popular virtual world for kids. Developed in response to requests from kids, Poptropica Land allows Members to 'change the world' by inventing their very own Islands.
In Poptropica Land, players find a mystical tool, spoken of in Ancient Norse legend, which grants them incredible power over the world around them v the power to explore, the power to create and the power to destroy.
Last February, Poptropica Members were invited to participate in the first Poptropica Labs experiment – a concept for testing new features with players v to evaluate the Poptropica Land prototype. Members rose to the occasion, crafting Islands that could be inhabited by everything from space creatures to dragons, and sharing their experiences, which were used to develop the 'alpha, version 2' of the product.
'Kids love Poptropica Islands, but they also want to invent their own virtual worlds and stories, and now they can,' said Jordan Leary, game designer and developer for Poptropica, who leads the effort to create Poptropica Land. 'Using feedback from thousands of Poptropica Members, we were able to deliver a new experience that puts the power of creation, and of storytelling, in the hands of our players.'
Parents can buy Poptropica Membership for their kids for less than $4 per month in one-, three- or six-month recurring increments. Membership gives players access to the newly released Poptropica Land, Early Access to new Islands, use of all costumes and special powers in the Poptropica Store, the ability to save costumes to a personal closet, and access to photos showing achievements in Island quests.
Today's launch is just the beginning for Poptropica Land. New features will be added in the future, allowing even more opportunity for creativity and building stories.
Hundreds of millions of kids have visited Poptropica since its launch nearly 7 years ago, and the number grows every day. Poptropica players come from more than 200 different countries and territories and have their web browsers set to more than 100 different languages.
Kids can stay up to date on news about upcoming new Islands and other exciting developments in the world of Poptropica on the official Poptropica blog.

Poptropica Honored as Cynopsis Kids !magination Awards Finalist for World Champions Players Map

Popular Virtual World for Kids Recognized for Outstanding, Cross-Platform Programming and Marketing in the Kids Media Industry

BOSTON – May 6, 2014 — Poptropica is a finalist for its Islands' World Champions Player Maps in Cynopsis Kids' third annual !magination Awards, recognizing the most outstanding cross-platform programming and marketing in the kids media industry. The popular virtual world for kids, which launched nearly seven years ago, added the interactive map in September 2013 to provide another way for players to celebrate their accomplishments.
On Poptropica, kids safely explore and play gaming-based stories with a deep narrative and unique challenge to solve. Kids hone their problem-solving skills by exploring rich environments and experiencing the story as it unfolds through their game play. Traditionally, the Top 10 players that finished a new quest would be announced in the official Poptropica blog. However, with millions of players on Poptropica each month, it was difficult to achieve a coveted spot on that list.
Now when a new quest is launched, an interactive Player Map launches with it. Kids can search for their usernames to find out their exact rank for completing the adventure. They can also filter the map to show the first 10, 100 or 1,000 finishers and drill down to see their fellow Poptropican players by U.S. state or country. The Player Map also shows all countries where kids have played that quest.
'The millions of kids who play Poptropica have always felt a great sense of accomplishment when they complete a quest. We added the World Champions Players Map to give them a stronger sense of accomplishment, strengthen their connection to the world of Poptropica and create a connection to other players around the world,' said Jess M. Brallier, publisher of Poptropica. 'It is an honor to have the Cynopsis Kids' !imagination Awards recognize the contribution that the World Champions Player Map has made to growing the Poptropica brand.'

New Quest on Popular Virtual World for Kids Solves Mystery of Vanishing Island

BOSTON – Feb. 13, 2014 — A quest shrouded in dark secrets and mystery, 'Monster Carnival,' arrived – finally – on Poptropica today with the Island's Early Access launch for Poptropica Members. Non-Members will have access to a limited demo of 'Monster Carnival' before its full public launch on March 13, 2014.
Ever since the Island first appeared on the Poptropica Island map in 2008 before completely vanishing, Poptropica fans around the world have tried to uncover what 'Monster Carnival' was all about, where it went, and when, if ever, it would return.
'Today, 'Monster Carnival' has returned to the Poptropica map and millions of kids around the world who have eagerly been awaiting the Island for five years can play this new adventure,' said Jess M. Brallier, publisher of Poptropica.
On 'Monster Carnival,' Poptropica visitors will find that, in the dead of night, a caravan has rumbled into town: the traveling carnival has returned. As they explore Poptropica's newest quest, they will discover that this is no day at the park – behind the lights and laughter the carnival harbors a dark secret. Players can enter, but they may never be able to escape the 'Monster Carnival.'
After completing the main quest, Poptropica Members will have access to a bonus quest. They will learn that the town is safe, but now a prominent citizen is missing. They will need to decide if the 'Monster Carnival' has claimed another victim or if something else is behind the disappearance.
Poptropica Members also get a 'Monster Carnival' gear pack, which includes Hypno-Powder item, Raven Swarm power, and, during Early Access only, a Ringmaster costume.
Hundreds of millions of kids have visited Poptropica since its launch six years ago and the number grows every day.
